The David R. Saunders
Endowed Lectureship in Gastroenterology


We are pleased to announce that we are establishing the David R. Saunders Endowed Lectureship in Gastroenterology in tribute to
Dr. Saunders' many tremendous contributions to both the University of Washington, School of Medicine and the Division of Gastroenterology. Proceeds from this fund will be used to continue his legacy of excellence in teaching, which is best evidenced by his leadership of the Gut Course (HuBio 551). Having served as the course chair for over 33 years, Dr. Saunders will be remembered by generations of medical students as an eloquent, dedicated and passionate mentor.

Under his leadership, the Gut Course rose to be one of the most highly ranked courses in the history of the School of Medicine, earning him the George N. Aaagaard Award for Oustanding Teaching and four
UW Distinguished Teaching Awards, including the honor of Teacher Superior in Perpetuity. The establishment of this fund will also honor Dr. Saunders' leadership as head of the GI Division from 1981-1995, as well as his many research interests and distinctions earned in the study of intestinal absorptive physiology. Proceeds from this fund will be used to support faculty activities related to the Gut Course. With your help, Dr. Saunders' legacy of excellence in teaching will continue to inspire both teachers and students for many generations to come.
