Reviews of recently published medical literature which will address
educational needs in a variety of areas, encompassing all of the organ
systems in the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary systems as well as
over-arching topics. The presentations are organized by topic. There
are three in-depth reviews at each session, two given by members of the
faculty and one by a fellow. Published manuscripts are reviewed and
critiqued by each presenter, who provides an annotated bibliography.
A presentation of cases that represent difficult or unusual problems for the practicing gastroenterologist. Each month's
presentation is organized by members of the faculty based at both University-affiliated and community hospitals, clinics,
and private practices. The audience consists of faculty, fellows, residents and students, drawn from throughout the Puget
Sound region. There is a free-flowing discussion that draws upon the expertise and clinical experience of members of the
audience. The presenters provide literature citations relevant to the cases under discussion.
Session on morbidity, mortality & management attended by gastroenterologists from the University of Washington faculty
and the private practice community who have an interest in clinical gastroenterology and hepatology. Topics have a strong
clinical orientation, with an emphasis on evidence-based decision making.
This session format has an advanced technique or diagnostic focus, such
as interventional and advanced diagnostic methods of gastrointestinal
endoscopy, as applied to real-life cases. Cases and topics are
presented to faculty and fellows from the Division of Gastroenterology
and from collaborating departments, such as Radiology and Pathology.
Topics for this session format include radiology, histopathology,
hepatology, clinical problem solving, research in progress, and
evidence-based gastroenterology.
Session presented by a visiting lecturer. Frontiers in Gastroenterology
& Hepatology will invite experts from other Universities to lecture
on subjects of their expertise, particularly if these topics have not
been presented by members of our extended faculty. Under these
circumstances, we will invite the principal investigator or primary
author to describe his or her original work. There is an opportunity
for interchange with the visiting expert at the time of the lecture and
in small group seminars following the lecture.
